The 26th annual Seaside Pro/Am Golf event held yesterday (3rd June) at Bridlington Golf Club was declared a resounding success and enjoyed by all the Professional and Amateur golfers taking part. Over the years the Seaside Pro/Am event has become the flagship event in the Yorkshire Professional Golfers Calendar.
Event Organiser Anthony Howarth said “The event was a resounding success and thankfully the weather was very kind. The golf course was in fantastic condition and the wind made the scoring very tricky on the day. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to the main sponsors of the event Keepmoat Homes for their kind support.”
In total almost forty golf professionals from around the North of England graced the fairways at Bridlington Golf Club and over one hundred amateurs joined them to make up the four man teams.
One of the highlights of the day was a Hole-in-one on the 173yard 11th Hole by Amateur golfer Ross Meggison.
The “Bridlington Free Press Trophy” and cheque for £2,000, presented to the leading Professional was tied by defending champion, Alex Belt and Paul Mayoh. They both scored very respectable rounds of 69 (2 under Par) to take the winner’s cheque. Former Bridlington Golf Club junior member, Nick Raybould, picked up the third placed Golf professional prize with a very solid score of 70 (one under Par).
The keenly contested Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy was eventually won by the team “Steptoe & Son” consisting of Bridlington Golf Club amateur members Colin Steptoe, Paul Steptoe and Colin Stancliffe. Their Professional was Nick Raybould from Seacroft Golf Club. They scored a very respectable score of 130 (12 under Par).
All the fantastic prizes up for grabs throughout the day were presented to the winners at the end of day Prize Presentation by Bridlington Golf Club Captain Jamie Sellars.
During the prizegiving many people were thanked for helping make the day such a huge success. Those thanked included the officials from the Yorkshire PGA, the Catering, Bar staff and Ladies Section at Bridlington Golf Club and also the many members who helped and generously offered their services throughout the day. The Greenkeepers were particularly praised for the condition of the course.
The 2023 event will take place on Friday 2nd June 2023.
